Terms of Service
Last updated 8 June 2026
These terms govern your use of Thesisroom. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. Read the academic integrity section with particular care: it is the heart of how this product is meant to be used.
1. What Thesisroom is
Thesisroom is a preparation and diagnosis tool for candidates defending academic work. It runs a mock viva grounded in your thesis, checks your citations against the academic record, audits your chapters for structural weaknesses, and helps you search for verified sources.
Thesisroom is not a writing service. It does not write your thesis, draft your chapters, or produce text for you to submit as your own.
2. Academic integrity: your responsibility
Thesisroom is designed to support honest preparation, not to replace your work or to evade scrutiny. You remain the sole author of your thesis and the sole owner of the ideas in it.
You are responsible for using Thesisroom in line with the rules of your institution, your programme, and your examiners. Some institutions restrict or prohibit the use of AI-assisted tools, and some require disclosure. Those rules take precedence over anything Thesisroom offers. If your institution prohibits a tool like this, do not use it for that work.
You agree not to use Thesisroom to fabricate data, invent citations, or disguise work as your own that is not. The product is built so that it cannot do these things, and you agree not to attempt to make it.
Thesisroom does not produce text intended to defeat plagiarism or AI-detection systems, and offers no such feature. The structural module returns comments and revision prompts, not replacement prose.
3. What Thesisroom will not do
It will not write your thesis. It will not generate citations you did not find yourself. It will not produce text designed to bypass detection. It will not rank or choose sources for you. The work, and the responsibility for it, stays yours.
4. Your content and ownership
You keep all rights to your thesis and everything you upload. Thesisroom claims no ownership of your work.
You grant Thesisroom only the limited permission needed to provide the service: to store your thesis, to process redacted excerpts of it for analysis as described in the Privacy Policy, and to show you the results. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account.
Your thesis is never used to train any AI model.
5. Accuracy and limitations
Thesisroom's analysis is an aid, not an authority. Generated questions, flags, and comments can be incomplete or wrong. You must verify anything before relying on it. Every flag links to the source behind it precisely so that you can check it.
Thesisroom is not a substitute for your supervisor, your committee, or your institution's guidance, and it does not provide legal or professional advice. The service is provided on an as-is basis, without a warranty that it will be uninterrupted or error-free.
6. Accounts and eligibility
You must provide accurate information, keep your login secure, and not share your account. One person may hold one account. You are responsible for activity under your account.
7. Plans, billing, and cancellation
Paid plans are billed through our payment processor. Prices and what each plan includes are shown on the pricing page.
You can cancel at any time from your settings. On cancellation your account returns to the free tier immediately, and your saved work remains readable for a retention window before it is locked. Your work is not deleted by cancellation, and resubscribing restores access.
The Defense Sprint is a fixed-window plan and is non-refundable by default. If your circumstances change, such as a defense cancelled by your institution, contact us and we will consider the case on its merits.
8. Lab Cohorts
A Lab Cohort gives a group shared access under one subscription. The cohort owner manages seats and is responsible for who they invite. Members get access while the cohort subscription is active, and lose it if the cohort ends or their seat is removed.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the service: not to attempt to extract another user's data, not to scrape or overload the service, not to circumvent usage limits or access controls, not to reverse engineer the product, and not to use it for any unlawful purpose.
10. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or end access if these terms are broken, if the service is misused, or if required by law. You can stop using Thesisroom and delete your account at any time. The sections that by their nature should survive, such as ownership, limitations, and liability, continue to apply after termination.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Thesisroom is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for academic outcomes, decisions made by your examiners, or reliance on output you did not verify. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, notify you. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the law of the jurisdiction in which Thesisroom operates, and any dispute will be handled by the courts of that jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory rights you have as a consumer where you live.
Questions about these terms can be sent to support@thesisroom.com, and a real person will answer.
